M3AAWG
The industry's front line against online abuse runs on a platform Aero has kept dependable under scrutiny since 2009.
M3AAWG, the Messaging, Malware and Mobile Anti-Abuse Working Group, is the global forum where technology providers, researchers, and policy experts come together to fight spam, malware, botnets, and other online exploitation. Aero maintains and evolves its public website and member portal, handling security updates, major version upgrades, and steady feature work with the care an organization this visible in security circles requires.
Public authority in front, private collaboration behind.
M3AAWG works on sensitive, fast-moving problems in internet security, and its website has to serve two worlds at once: a public face that carries best practices, policy positions, and meeting information for the broader industry, and a protected space where members collaborate on work that isn't ready for daylight. The audiences range from policy makers and researchers to technical working groups, and the archive behind them keeps growing, spanning reports, event materials, and guidance documents in multiple languages. A site published by a security authority also gets judged by a security audience, so accessibility, compliance, and stability aren't features here. They're table stakes.
Publishing standards, running meetings, connecting members.
The site is a custom Drupal build with a strong editorial structure, run day to day by M3AAWG staff with Aero handling support, tuning, and upgrades behind the scenes. In practice, it does the working group's heavy lifting:
Publishes best practices
Staff post dated guidance documents, technical summaries, and translations to a public library the industry cites and consults.
Gates member content
Role-based access controls keep public resources open while member-only material stays behind login.
Supports global meetings
Three general meetings a year, from San Diego to Paris to Dublin, run through the site with agendas, registration windows, and calls for proposals.
Carries policy positions
Formal comments to bodies like NIST and ICANN publish alongside the technical library, giving M3AAWG's advocacy a permanent public record.
Connects membership systems
Integrations with external systems such as Salesforce keep member data flowing between the site and the tools staff already use.
Keeps news moving
Blog posts, news releases, and meeting recaps go out through the same editorial tools, no developer in the loop.
Seventeen years of not being the weak link.
An anti-abuse organization can't afford a website that becomes the cautionary tale. Over 17 years, Aero has carried M3AAWG's platform through performance tuning, security patching, UX refinements, and major version upgrades, always with the discretion an organization this prominent in cybersecurity expects. The membership grew, the document library deepened, the meetings circled the globe, and the site kept doing its job quietly. That's the point.
